Before you apply, make sure you meet these minimum qualifications to become a Landstar Business Capacity Owner (BCO) — that’s our name for independent owner-operators.

To lease on with Landstar, you must:

✔️ Be at least 23 years old

✔️ Have a valid Class A CDL

✔️ Have at least 1 year of verifiable OTR (Over-the-Road) experience in the last 3 years

✔️ Own your own truck (no company drivers — this is for true owner-operators)

✔️ Pass a DOT physical and drug screen

✔️ Have a clean driving record with no major violations

✔️ Meet Landstar’s insurance and safety requirements
